Athletics

Bartlett Parks and Recreation offers youth and adult recreational programs. Youth program include T-Ball, Baseball, Cheerleading, Girls Softball and Girls Volleyball. Adult programs offered include Softball for men, women and co-ed teams, Basketball for men and Volleyball for men, women and co-ed teams. All sign-ups and rosters are available in the Athletic Office at Singleton Community Center.

Sign-ups for baseball, girls softball and girls volleyball are the first two weeks of February. Sign-ups for basketball, girls volleyball and cheerleading are the first two weeks September. Please refer to the calendar for specific dates.

For baseball, the child must be 5 before May 1st of the current year. For basketball, the child must be 5 before April 1st of the following year.

You can contact the inclement weather hotline at (901)385-5595 to find out the status of field playability. A decision regarding field playability will be made by 3:00 pm Monday-Friday, Saturday by 7:00 am and Sunday by 10:00 am.

Business Licenses

Yes. If your business is located within the Bartlett city limits, or if you do business in Bartlett, you will need to obtain both a city and a county license.
|
|
|
First, you must obtain written approval from the Planning Department, Codes Enforcement Department, and the Fire Marshall. You will return these approvals to the Tax Department along with your completed application for business license. Please be sure to have the $20 application fee, which can be paid with cash or check, and the business owner's driver's license.
|
|
|
This is an annual form required by State law that must be filed to renew your business license. It requires the business owner to report and pay taxes on the total gross sales of the business.
|
|
|
Most business owners have bookkeepers or CPAs who are responsible for completing these forms. If you choose to complete it yourself, instructions are provided with the form. We can provide help with the form if you bring it in to the Tax office or by faxing it to the Tax Department.

A portion of your business tax paid to the City is remitted to the State of Tennessee.
|
|
|
Personalty tax is a tangible tax on the assets used to run and operate your business. The Shelby County Assessors office provides the aseessed value.
|
|
|
A business is not officially closed until you file a final return with the Tax Department. This must be done to ensure no future billings by the City or County.

The International Property Maintenance Code governs a minimum standard of maintenance, appearance, conditions of all properties including but not limited to overgrown grass, weeds or noxious growths, inoperable vehicles, appliances, fencing, sidewalks etc. of residential and non-residential premises.

A permit is required for any alteration or repair to a building, any new building, fence, swimming pool, sign (new or face change), detached building, siding, decks, and special events. Separate permits are necessary for plumbing, electrical, mechanical & gas piping if these particular trades are being done. Our Solid Waste Division is one of the most complete and efficient operations in the State of Tennessee. We recycle roughly 40% of the solid waste generated by our residents through a combination of our yard waste collections and drop-off recycling centers. One of the best ways to prepare for an emergency is to receive training through the CERT program. CERT is an acronym for Community Emergency Response Team. This program prepares the individual to help the community, home, and themselves in the event of a disaster. The Bartlett Fire Department offers CERT training on a regular basis. The board meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month at Bartlett City Hall, 6400 Stage Road at 7:00 pm. Board agendas are posted on the bulletin board outside of City Hall and also on the web page at www.cityofbartlett.org no more than three days before the meeting.

Citizens may speak on any topic for up to three minutes during Open Discussion at the end of every Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting.

If grass or weeds are taller than 9 inches, it is considered overgrown.
|
|

A pool that is green, breeding mosquitoes or algae is considered stagnant and must be treated.
|
|
|
A vehicle must be moved every 72 hrs. if parked on a city street.
|
|
|
RVs must be placed in rear or side yard, behind front setback. If the property is located on a corner lot, you have two front setbacks.
|
|
|
If a vehicle is not legally licensed or not operable, it must be placed within an enclosure. A vehicle that weighs under 12,000 pounds, has a legal license and is operable, can be placed on a solid, dust free, surface, such as a concrete or asphalt drive, in the front setback. If it is stored in the side or rear of the property, it can be parked on the grass.

COMMERCIAL REAL ESTATE SIGN REQUIREMENTS A permit is required for all Commercial Real Estate signs. The following is required to make a application for permit:
1. A site plan, showing placement of sign and distance from roadway. 2. A picture of the sign, with dimensions. 3. Name and phone number of responsible party. 4. PERMIT MUST BE RENEWED EVERY 6 MONTHS, AS LONG AS SIGN IS UP. RESTRICTIONS:
1. Only one sign per property, no matter the size. 2. Max. square footage of signage is 20 sq. feet; if sign is two sided, 10 ft. per side is max. 3. Max. height of sign is 5 ft., measured from ground to tallest point of sign. 4. No banners, pennants or decorative flags can be attached to the sign. RESIDENTIAL REAL ESTATE SIGN REQUIREMENTS No permit is required. The following is the restrictions on placement of the sign. 1. Only one sign per property. 2. Max. size per sign is 6 sq. ft. 3. No off premise signs allowed, such as directional or open house. 4. Signs must be placed on property, not in the easement/right of way. Any illegal residential signs will be removed by Code Compliance.

A Permit Application Form can be obtained online or from our office at 6462 Stage Road from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Other documentation may be required for out office to issue a permit. A permit is valid for 6 months provided construction has begun and inspections have been started. If more than 6 months elapses between inspections, the permit becomes void.

Depending on the work to be done, certain documentation is required. Most work that is done will require a copy of the Surveyor's Plot Plan. This document looks like a map of the property and should be in your closing papers. Please contact our office at (901) 385-6425 if you have any questions regarding what documentation will be needed to apply for a permit.

You can call our office at (901) 385-6425 to schedule an inspection. We make next day inspections unless there is an open ditch, which we will make those the same day they are called in. All inspections must be called in by the person who obtained the permit(i.e. electrical inspection called in by electrical contractor).

Inspections are required to make sure the work is being done properly. We make sure through our inspection process that the code is being followed and no unsatisfactory work, faulty materials or violations to the code are being made that could result in unsafe or hazardous conditions for you, your family, employees or the general public

It depends on the type of work being done. Our office has compiled a flow chart of what typical inspections are to be made for the type of job you are requesting a permit for. Please request a copy of a flow chart when you apply for your permit.

Family Assistance Commission

Any individual or family living within the City limits of Bartlett whose health, safety and general welfare may be endangered by their lack of resources is eligible for assistance. The Family Assistance Commission also uses the income guidelines set by the Shelby County Housing Rehabilitation Program to determine eligibility.

The Family Assistance Commission works to match citizens needs with a governmental agency, non-profit charitable organization, a local church or private businesses. If other help is not found, the Family Assistance Commission can assist citizens with payments for goods and services.

No. Cash is never distributed to citizens in need. Assistance may be given in the form of a check made out to the supplier of goods and services or the donation of a store gift card.

Fire Department

The Bartlett Fire Department bills your medical insurance directly. That is why we need all of the information on the card. Such as billing address, phone numbers, certain codes that your insurance company may use.

Medical Reports are confidential documents protected by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act(HIPAA). To request a medical report you must complete a Medical Consent Form for Disclouser of Medical Information (see link at bottom of page). This form must be notarized. NO EXCEPTIONS! Do not sign it until in the presence of a notary. There is a notary in the office where the report must be taken (Station 1 at 2939 Altruria, on the corner of Altruria and Stage Road). You must show proof of ID. If the patient is a minor, you must show the birth certificate of the patient. If the patient is not a minor and deceased, a power of attorney document, marriage license or death certificate must be provided.Request have been rejected due to patient was alive and in the hospital, unable to come to the office and spouses requesting the record. We are very strict on these rules to protect patient identy and medical information. There is no fee for the first 5 pages and $0.25 for each additional page. These can normally be processed immediately.

Garbage Collection

You have 4 options: 1- Mulch your leaves with a lawnmower. Decayed leaves provide excellent fertilization for your yard and plant beds. 2- Rake them to the curb, not in the street, during "LOOSE LEAF COLLECTION SEASON", November 1 through March 31. Please be advised that delays for this service are not uncommon due to large volumes of leaves placed at the curb for collection. 3- Bag and place them at the curb (not in the street) for weekly collection on your regular garbage collection day. 4- Place them unbagged in your yard waste cart for collection on your regular garbage collection day.

A $25 fee will be charged for the pickup of all major appliances. The owner must visit City Hall or Public Works to purchase a 'sticker' for pickup.
