Iaido
Iaido (“ee-ah-ee-doh”) is the Japanese art of drawing the sword. Our branch of Iaido is called Yagyu-ryu, and it has been practiced in Japan for over 400 years. Although the original purpose was as a military art, it is practiced today as a Zen art, where the focus is on becoming more present in each moment, seeking perfection in our physical movements, and self-introspection. We learn by moving through various choreographed sword forms that have been handed down from our Sensei in Japan. This is a medium-to-low-impact class with only limited physical contact. Both women and men, 18 years and up, are welcome to attend. Practice is conducted with non-sharpened, practice swords or wooden practice swords only.
Schedule:
- Saturdays, 11:00 am to 1:00 pm
Fee:
- $25/month Resident
- $35/month Non-Resident
