Bartlett City Beautiful presents - 2022 Bartlett Gardening University

  • This series of presentations are designed to provide information and inspiration for home gardeners whether they are experienced or beginners.
  • The series is open to the public, FREE, no registration required
  • All presentations will be provided by Master Gardeners
  • These programs will begin at 2:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the Bartlett Public Library located at 5884 Stage Road

Bartlett City Beautiful – Gardening University 2022

The Bartlett City Beautiful Commission in conjunction with the Bartlett Library and Memphis Area Master Gardeners are sponsoring "Bartlett Gardening University" a six part series of garden talks which are free and open to the public.  All presentations will be provided by Master Gardeners on consecutive Saturdays beginning at 2:30 P.M. each week Jan 8,15,22,29 Feb 5, 12.   No registration is required

COVID NOTE: The Bartlett Library follows health guidelines in regard to covid transmission. Currently masks are required at the Bartlett Library. For these presentations seating is limited to 40 in the meeting room which allows for some separation.  Overflow seating will be available in other rooms with live feed on monitors.  For those who prefer to view from home a live feed will be available over the internet. January 8, 2022 : Composting Basics – Mary Lee Hood 

Vertical gardening is fun, creative and provides many opportunities to create a calming atmosphere, hide an ugly area, create a privacy screen, increase your yield, or make use of objects that may be stored in the attic or garage or even found on the street. Also includes pertinent information on container gardening.

January 15, 2022: Creating and Maintaining a Flower Bed – David Fuchs  

Healthy plants come from healthy soils. This presentation covers the basics of proper drainage, fertilization and weed control in a flower bed along with some design tips. 

January 22, 2022: Introduction to Drip Irrigation – Melisa Knirr

Learn how to set-up a timed watering system for pots, borders or anything that requires water in the hot summer heat. With a little knowledge you can have beautiful flowers and veggies all summer long without "toting" a watering can all hours of the.

 January 29, 2022: ABC’s of Herb Gardening – John Peterson                                                                                                          Are you planting herbs in your garden or planning an herb garden? This talk provides some thoughts about growing herbs and some ways to use and preserve your harvest.

February 5, 2022: Container Gardening – Cindy Pickle                                                                                                                        This talk teaches the basics of using containers for flowers (not vegetables) and will address suitable containers, the foundation for the plants and plant types.

February 12, 2022: 12 Months of Bloom - Tom Rieman                                                                                                                   When faced with a desire for a well-designed garden that fits your lifestyle and needs most gardeners lack the confidence to create a landscape plan.  Whether you are a DIY gardener or just need to get ideas to take to a professional this presentation will provide the steps you can take to design your personal paradise.
