Matt Crenshaw


Director Matt Crenshaw is a native of Bartlett and a 1988 graduate of Bartlett High School. In June 1988, Bartlett Public Works hired him as a seasonal/part-time Utility Worker in the Water/Wastewater Division while attending college.

 In August of 1993, Director Crenshaw was promoted to a full time Driver/Equipment Operator in the Water/Wastewater Division. During that time, he obtained both the State of Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Grade 2 Water Distribution Operator Certification and the Grade 2 Wastewater Collection Operator Certification. He was the first Bartlett employee to hold the TDEC required Wastewater Collection Operator Certification. He was promoted to Crew Leader in December 1998 and promoted to Field Supervisor in September 1999. In January 2010, he was promoted to Division Manager over both the Water/Wastewater Division and General Maintenance Division. In July 2018, he was appointed to Assistant Director of Public Works by Mayor A. Keith McDonald. In January 2023, Mayor David Parsons appointed him to Director of Public Works.

During his career in Public Works, Director Crenshaw has been responsible for a multitude of capital improvement projects, one being the planning, construction management, and completion of the $5.2 million Public Works Fleet Maintenance Facility completed in 2022. He has received numerous recognitions and awards, including the Tennessee Chapter of American Public Works Association 2012 recipient of the Charles Walter Nichols Award for outstanding service in the water distribution and wastewater collection field. He also serves on numerous boards and committees throughout the city.
