Jeanie Underwood has lived in Bartlett for over 45 years and has worked for the City of Bartlett for 34 years.  She was a teenager when she got her first job in the Parks Department. She then went to college in Collegedale, TN (a suburb of Chattanooga) and graduated Magna Cum Laude with an Associate of Science degree in Office Administration—Executive Secretary Emphasis. 

After graduation, she worked for the City of Bartlett Water Department for a year then decided to further her education and returned to Collegedale to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management and an Associate of Science in Accounting, graduating Cum Laude with both.

After her second college graduation, Jeanie returned to Bartlett and worked as the Business Tax Administrator in the City of Bartlett Finance Department, not only processing business and personalty taxes but real estate taxes as well from 1989 -1992.  Jeanie built a reputation as the “Helpful Tax Collector” by developing an expertise in business tax laws and real estate taxes. 

From 1992-1999, she worked as an Administrative Assistant in the Accounting Department for the City of Bartlett, reconciling bank statements, posting taxes and cash receipts and preparing monthly allocations, among many other duties.  In 1999, she was appointed by Mayor Ken Fulmar as his Administrative Assistant.  In 2003, A. Keith McDonald became Mayor and chose to re-appoint Jeanie, and she worked with him for 20 years as his Executive Assistant.  Mayor David Parsons reappointed her to this position in January 2023.

Jeanie is a Certified Administrative Professional through the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP), sitting for the exam in 2002 and scoring in the 99th percentile worldwide.
